Default Flooding Issue

I just purchased a 1968 Cougar. It has the Autolite 4300 4 barrel carburetor on it. The carburetor was rebuilt just before I purchased the car, by a gentleman who has been building performance Mustangs and Fords for 35 years, so I know it was done right. The car runs great. However, every so often, with no pattern, fuel will pour out of the top of the accelerator pump piston, the car will flood and die. Has anyone else had this issue with the 4300 carb? Any advice?

sounds like the float in the carb might be sticking open and not rising to stop th flow of fuel into the carb
