Default 289 to 351w distributer

ive been looking and cant find a good answer.

when swapping a 289 to 351w is there any difficulty in wiring the new 351w distributor to the 289?

from my reading it seems like the only thing i need to buy is a front oil sump.is this accurate?

this will be my first engine swap. im 23 and just trying to learn. thanks for the help.

If you swap for the same type of distributor you will be fine. IE if you have a points style distributor, and you are putting a points style back in, then there will be no changes. If you are moving from a points to an electrical, then there is a resistor you will need to bypass.

Also might need different headers, depending on your exhaust setup. Are you just putting an entire 351W donor engine in?

ya im going to find a cheap priced running one on craigslist and add the edelbrock top end performer kit to it. with some conversion headers. thats basically it. it says 400hp but im wanting between 350-400 so i think that will fit the bill perfectly.

Make sure your transmission, rear end and suspension can handle it.

an 8 inch rear end with stock(for now) gears and a Detroit should handle it just fine right? its only going to on the track a few times a year with out slicks.maybe some street radials

as for the tranny, i hope i blow it up, its a c4 and it would give me a reason to upgrade.

suspension wise i was just gonna throw some slappers on it and call it a day. lol am i going to need upgraded coils or shocks?or will stock ones in good condition work fine?

Rear should be ok on street tires with a locker. Careful about blowing a trans up as an excuse though, can do a lot of dmg in the process to other parts.

As for suspension, just put good leaves on it with some Cal-Tracs if it's a strip car. But you have to have good springs to start with if you want control.
