Default 8" tracloc savable?

OK, simple question, bought a center section some time back and threw it in the coupe. I initially heard a whine, but wrote it off to break-in of the tracloc. I was under the car today measuring the driveline angle after a drop, and noticed allot of play in the ring/pinion. I'd like to pull the center and re-set the lash, but want to know if it's savable? I've got maybe 300-400 miles on this rear end and want to know if I'm wasting my time. Its enough play to clearly hear a clunk when you turn the drive shaft, so it's obviously not set right. Is it savable?

Hi,
When you stated you bought this rear sometime ago was it new or used? Obviously, if used, unless your are equipped to do the measuring, take it to an expert for rebuilding to include the clutch packs if needed.

If you have no experience in setting up rear gears, you don't stand much of a chance of pulling it off. Someone experienced in rebuilding these gears would improve your chances almost 100%.
Best,
Al

gears can get a pattern worn into them, so getting rid of the whine might not be possible. For the clunk depending on the amount of play, you probably have to reset the pinion depth so you will need a crush collar and shims.
