VIN locations
I have recently purchased a 1965 mustang coupe. It has a 200 6 cyl 2bbl. It is a powder blue with matching interior. There is an appraisal with it that states that it is all original stock.
I used a VIN decoder using the tag on the driver's door and found that the car is supposed to be honey gold, with ivy gold crinkle interior and a CID 289 v8 2bbl. I understand that another door may have been put on it but where else may I find a VIN on the vehicle to compare it to?
I can't find one on the dash, firewall, radiator braket, steering column... The title IDs the same VIN that's on the door. I need help. I know there are "hidden VINs" but don't know where.

RE: VIN locations
check the driver's side fender near the shock tower. It's printed on the engine compartment where the compartment meets the fender. You may have to do a good bit of looking but it is stamped there.

I have looked and the engine compartment has been mercilessly coated in a think black paint.
There were 3 deep impressions there though and I think they are either "3 26" or "3 28" does that mean anything to you?

RE: VIN locations
That is really confusing. You say the title matches the VIN on the door? And it is a 6 banger and should be a V8? Who, in their right mind would throw a 6 banger into a V8 car? Can you tell if it is the original title? Anyway, these guys are right about the VIN being on the driver's side inner fender right next to the shock tower. Get all that paint off so you can read the whole number. The VIN is also under the passenger side fender, but you would have to take the fender loose to find it.

Are the wheels 4 lug or 5? Just one way to check. If it's a factory 200, it should be 4 lug, V8 are all 5 lug. Also, you said that it came with an appraisal. Contact the appraisal company. Also, there is a VIN on the driver's side right beside the fender under the hood. You may already know this but I didn't see it mentioned.
