Default Fix '71 shifter?

Our 71 Grande has three speed automatic. Trouble is, the shifter got scrwed up (I won't say WHO messed it up, accidentally), so it doesn't always go into Park (can be exciting on a hill if you forget the e-brake), and often still needs a push to get all the way up to engage the limit switch to permit starting. Anyone have experience taking one of these apart? Are internal parts available someplace? If not, where should I look to buy a replacement mechanism?

How did "someone" mess it up? Did you errr....uhm, "they" take it apart or mess with the linkage? Either way, it can't be that big of a deal. Other than the button breaking or replacing the plastic bushings there isn't much to them.

It was damaged by trying to shift out of PARK without turning the key. One of those "of course!" moments after it happened... There's a disc with circuit traces on it that came out of the assembly some time later (never got a good story on how that happened) and the piece that protects covers the opening aft of the shift lever is missing as well.

The electrical item is the neutral/safety switch, all 69-72 FMX transmissions had that on the shifter instead of the trans.

There's not much to the Ford auto trans shifter. 99% of the time all you need is the pivot bushings and perhaps the bushing that connects the link rod at the bottom. The whole job is less than $20. If the lockout dog is out of adjustment, that's a quick no-cost job. If the dog is damaged, I'd just replace the whole lever, then you'll have new chrome, too.
