Default No Spark to Coil?

Hello group.....new to the forum and am having trouble trying to get my 1965 convertible straight 6 200 cid to run. I pulled the coil wire from the cap and cant get it to spark.....thought maybe the 48 year old coil finally went out. I bought a new coil and installed it and still nothing? Pulled the coil wire off and hooked a volt meter to the line and could NOT get a continuity tone on the meter......so the wire must be bad? Changed out the wire to a new one and still nothing. Pulled the push on 12 volt plug on the other side of coil and it shows 12 volts when the key is turned on......so I am getting power from battery to line that hook's to coil stud.....and have attached the other wire with nut that goes to dist......but still NO spark? what the heck am I doing wrong after 2 coils? I live up in the high desert and would be more than happy to supply beer and BBQ if someone wants to lend a hand. also have in ground pool and jacuzzi.....just saying. hahaha Thanks for any and all help.

The coil is simple. The "HOT" wire is always live when the key is ON. The black wire from the distributor is the "grounding" wire. It goes from the other side of the coil to the points in the distributer. You can test the coil by turning on the key, taking that ground wire and tapping it to a bolt on the motor. Every time you lift off the bolt you should get a spark. DO NOT leave the ground on for very long. The coil will get hot and burn out.
