Default Should i hone my engine or a shop

I have 2 blocks (289&351c) that are getting burned and beaded. $65 per block they said they will hone the cylinders for $50 per block on top f that. Should I just hone my own block. The part is $40 and comes with the stones I need.

If you see honing blocks as something you'd do in the future, I'd do it myself. If it's just the two blocks, I'd pay the shop to do it.

Though the Aircraft Maintenance school I graduated from is nearby, and I choose (c) which is to use their hone.

Are you Active Duty? If so, does the on base auto shop have a hone?

Didn't ask the shop but will its a super good shop. I am active I will use it again I am sure 2 blocks will be $100 for the shop fees. The tool and blocks are $40 just wondering if it's as easy as I have been told and seen on YouTube.

If the blocks are being cleaned up, I would assume they have a lot of miles on them. If so, simply honing the blocks would be a waste of time, as they would as a minimum need a clean-up bore, then a honing. Homestyle honing worked okay back in your grandpa's day, but blocks these days need very specialized cylinder wall finishing for a proper rebuild. There are several styles of piston rings available, and they all need their own unique cylinder wall finishing for proper operation.
Best,
Al
