Default Need help with 65 coupe fuel filter

On the way home yesterday my 65 coupe decided it was going to start surging ahead and not react to the gas pedal and eventually it just stalled out and wouldn't turn back on. My father in law said that it sounded like it could be a bad fuel filter and after doing some web reading, the filter seems to be the culprit. Easy enough fix I thought except for that when I bought the filter and went to put it on, for the life of me I couldn't find the damn filter. I took a bunch of pictures of the engine and put them into an album in the hopes that someone can see it and point it out to me. I am really hoping that I am just dumb and missing whats right in front of me.

Here is the link to the engine pictures: http://imgur.com/a/2JJiy

Thanks in advance.

I would imagine that it's in the same place as on the 289s. Driver side of the engine, a little behind the oil filter. It will have a rather large canister, which you take off to put the new filter in.

I could be wrong, as I am used to the 289's

I too am used to the 289, but looking at the parts catalog the fuel pumps look really similar, below is a picture of mine taken apart, you have to unscrew the bottom portion to access the filter. I would just trace your fuel line coming off the carb down to the fuel pump:

It looks like someone put an electric fuel pump on the car... the fuel filter is screwd into that little silver box that the fuel line is coming from

That part that I have an arrow going to is a fuel filter , and what it is screwed into appears to be a fuel solenoid , or some kind of electronic fuel control . I can not tell for sure cause I cant make out what it says on it but the fuel line traces right to it from the carb.

Yeah its an electric fuel pump. Can I just buy a fuel filter and put that in instead of the electric pump or can I run them both? The guy that owned the car before me had the engine overhauled 4 years ago and I've only recently acquired it. It seems I'm having to go through and fix things that he did just so I can drive the car. Guess he just cut corners to get her running. : /

Unfortunatly that filter screws into the pump and youll have to find a filter that will replace that one . If that's the problem. What does that box say on it maybe you can find the filter that fits it.

Is the pump working ok?

You need that pump if the original pump is not there. Is that the 2.3l or the 3.3l inline 6? the pumps with cooler and filter are pretty cheap.

I don't understand why he wouldn't have just fixed the original pump..

That car is supposed to have a fuel cooler on it to avoid vapor lock. I think that's the big can in the other members pic with the filter .
