Default Flaming River Steering Box VS Rebuild

Ive come to the conclusion that my steering box is just about shot, and before I decide just to have it rebuilt, what are the pros of having a more expensive flaming river box?
Is the play less? Is the steering easier? and most importantly is it worth 500 bucks?

Default RE: Flaming River Steering Box VS Rebuild

I'd take the F.R. box over a standard "rebuild". Even though it is almost double the money.

There are race shops that will rebuild your original box to extremely close tolerances, using upgraded components. Like "Blueprinting" an engine, this is a very thorough way to get a better box then came from the factory. Depending on wear, it can be rather expensive. Especially if they have to start replacing the sector or worm gear. When you get it back, I'd put it up against any Flaming River box. Unless you've got some severe wear it shouldn't cost more than a new F.R. box either. Something to consider.
