Default Transmission Questions

I have a couple questions. I have a 1966 Fastback A code with a 3spd. I recently rebuilt the 289 it got some upgrades with the rebuild. So it has a little more power than original. Since the rebuild is so fresh I baby it pretty well and don't push it very hard. From what I have red the 3spds were meant for cyl. and I am afraid of how it will hold up to the v8. I would like to toss a 4 speed in it.

1. Any suggestions or anything to look for in a 4 speed?
2. Benefits of 4 vs 3?
3. I realize that a t5 would be great but it isn't really what I need at the moment.
4. How will the fit compare between the 3 and 4? Will I need to modify my drive shaft? Will I need to possibly change my rearend gearing? What about clutch and flywheel?

I know these are a lot of questions and may come off ignorant but I don't know much outside of what I currently have.

Pretty much the same, 1 just has an extra gear. Toploaders are obviously more stout, but the 3 speeds are pretty durable....they just have 3 speeds, which sucks. Honestly, that 3 speed may even be more rugged than a T5.

If you plan on ever putting out any serious power in the future, just save up and get a real transmission like a TKO, T56 etc.
