1967 Speedometer issues
Alright, I just had my car restored and my speedometer worked the first time I drove it but the next time I went out to drive it, the speedo didn't work. I'm an amateur when it comes to working on my own car but I want to try my hand and learn as much as I can. Having said that, I don't know where to start. I am going to buy a good shop manual tomorrow but where would all of you experts start on this thing? I've got great weather this weekend and would love to spend a few hours tinkering around.
Thanks for all your help!
Troy
PS...don't know if it matters or not but I had a 289 with a 3-speed stick before the resto but now I have a hipo 289 with a 4-speed stick.
Thanks for all your help!

There is a cable that runs from the speedometer to the transmission. Since you've had your trans swapped out, that's where I'd start looking. Find where your speedo cable connects to the transmission and make sure that it is still connected and seated good.
On the speedo side contort yourself accordingly and stick your hand under the dash and follow the cable up to where it screws in to the back of the speedo to see if that side is still connected too just to make sure.
If everything looks ok then pull the transmission side of the cable out and check the little nylon gear that meshes with the trans and see what kind of shape it's in. They wear down or can crack & often need changing after almost 50 years of use. They are transmission specific so get the right one.
CJ Pony Parts or most any other Mustang parts supplier will have those replacement gears.
Easy-peezy.
