Hey all,

I'm planning on putting a short throw shifter on my T5. Is anyone running one that they like? I've done a search, and Steeda Tri-Ax, and MGW seem to get the best reviews. Also, I'll be putting this in my 68 coupe, can I install this with out dropping the transmission?

I have the Tri-Ax on my TKO 600 and like it, never let me down and built well. I've heard good things about the MGW as well, so you can't go wrong with either.

You'll likely have to drop the trans to put the shifter on, I think on the T5 the shifter base is bigger than the console hole. Also, you want to not have to wrestle it into place, you can drop **** down in the trans that way, and they have to be kept CLEAN.

Depending on your engine mounts, you might be able to get away with just dropping the back of the trans down to get enough clearance to install it (if you can still tighten the bolts). Be careful not to put the fan through the radiator doing that though if you have a mech. fan.

MGW!!!

On my 97 (which, granted was a T45, but same shifter), I had the Tri-Ax first and swapped it for the MGW and was MUCH happier with the MGW. Though, you can't go wrong with either, really. The MGW is smoother and shorter I feel, plus MGW allows you to rotate the shifter **** to wherever you like it best.

Not sure about installation on a 68 though. The 97 installed from inside, but that's probably not comparable.

I've been running a Pro 5.0 for over ten years on my '91 GT and have loved it since day one.......ZERO issues.....and I drive that car HARD. (Actually, I'm not even sure they are still in business).

Thanks for the info guys. Hmmm, so I'd have to drop the trans to get this on. Thats a lot of work, I'm wondering if it's worth it. Has anyone "modified" the opening so that a shifter can be installed from inside? I dont think that the shifter boot would cover the expanded opening, and I would risk getting fumes in through the hole. I could probably cover the expanded area with sound deadener, but not sure that that would cut it.

I've driven with both a Tri-Ax and a Pro 5.0. The Tri-Ax is an excellent shifter, very crisp, but the Pro 5.0 is my favorite. Smooth, short, notchy throws that make sure you know exactly which gear you're in.

I've got the Tri-ax in my 89 on a T5, and the MGW in my 04 Cobra. Smoothness, I rate them pretty close. The MGW has the advantage of an adjustable handle that can be adjusted where it's most comfortable for you - made a big difference in the Cobra.

i have the Pro 5.0. The others are nice too but make sure whichever one you get is spring assisted internally for the 2-3 shift. My first shifter (B&M Ripper) was not.

I cut open my tunnel and made a replacement panel that screws back on. Makes transmission removal/installation easier.
