3G alternator in a 1968 coupe.
I've searched the forums and havent seen anything mentioned about the original voltage regulator. Is it necessary with the new alternator and if so which wires go from the new alternator to the wires from the old voltage regulator?

No, a 3G is internally regulated and does not require the external regulator. Can't tell you which wires go where, though. Usually if you google "3G alternator conversion" you come up with something. The factory service manual wiring diagrams would be helpful here.

Starfury is right on. To prevent confusion, sometime in the future you may want to remove the Vreg from the car - it is not necessary once the 1 wire system is put in. Also if you have upgraded the alternator output to more amperage, it's a good idea to run a second wire (2 Ga or larger) from the alt B+ term to the battery side of the starter relay terminal. The factory wire is not designed to carry the extra electrical load.
