Smile First time in 40 years I've worked on a car!!

Recently purchased a 1970 Mustang Coupe, 351w T5. We sold our business and I rewarded myself with this car. I have not "worked" on a car since I was 18 years old when the fuel pump blew out on my 5 year old 1968 Chev Impala. I used to do small stuff, replacing alternators, plugs, wires, little stuff. Never got into more then that, my careers took me in opposite directions.

So the Mustang is a tad bit short in leg room for my 37" inseam. After the part came in I was under a car for the first time in 40 years. Moved the seat back so I can enjoy my new car. Next up.......new temp gauge. The current one pooped out last week.

Ya, I know, you guys are doing doing ALOT more then that, but to me it was a total blast being under a car and having zero idea what I was actually doing and best of all it worked with a hitch!!

i recommend buying the factory service manual or getting it in PDF format then you can read how it all goes together step by step!

Just an update. The new mechanical temperature gauge was put in today and it actually works : ) I didn't even short anything out or blow anything up!!

Now I need to get the alternator belt to quit slipping. I've tightened it but it still squeaks. Belt dressing or will sanding the inside of the belt stop the slipping? maybe I just need a new belt.

I went through several Goodyear and Gates belts from the local auto parts stores and they all slipped, for some reason,. I then bought a Ford 'concours' belt from a Mustang supplier and, for some reason, it doesn't slip, even when installed on the loose side.

Cool beans.

+1 to what RModel said about getting a factory service manual. They will tell and show you almost everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask.
