Identification of my 68 coupe?
Ok, I am totally confused on this after trying to purchase a full Marti Report the other week. Here is my VIN 8F01J100302. I have the original dash tag and door tag. When I submitted this in, the Marti Report says it does not show up in the registry. The serial number 8F01C100302 does however. Stamping error in VIN? To add further to this I have the original engine and trans in the car also. Here is that information. Stamped on the block is C8OE-6015-A. 7G24. That tells me it is a 68 Fairlane 289/302 produced July 24, 1967. To further complicate and confuse me is I have the original motor tag by coil bracket. It is stamped:
302 C 68 1
7-G 279-J
To me that tag also confirms 302, 1968, J code as well, correct?
I do not doubt what they are telling me as it is what comes up in their system. I also replaced the inner fender aprons years ago which is where the VIN would have also been stamped for me to confirm this as well. Dummy me did not know that at the time.
So my question to all the mustang experts out there, based off numbers above what do I have in my possession? A Code J 302 mustang or a 289 C code mustang? When I run the VIN in a search engine it comes up with every single option I have on my car. I was told that these search engines are just for reference as you can really enter any number in it and do not hold any weight when coming to the Marti Reports.
Anyway, just trying to get to the bottom of this. I have owned the car for the past 8 years and completed my restoration about 4 years ago. Just wanted to get the report and all of this came up.
Thanks
Jeff

The code J says 302. The casting date says its a SB ford engine block built in 1967 on July 27 and it is a 302 block. You can pull a valve cover and look at the head embosement for 302 or under an exhaust port for C7OE-C. If the head casting end in letter A or B they are 289 heads
