Transmission Question

So, getting back to this, I opted to keep the toploader. Pulled it out mainly to replace clutch. Had the flywheel resurfaced, and found the pilot bushing was worn out. The existing pilot hole was about 1/4" too big and somewhat oblong. Replaced with a pilot bearing. Thinking that the pilot hole was that big, made me think perhaps the input shaft bearing was shot, so opted to get a rebuild kit. rebuilt the tranny and got it all back together. Still has sloppy shifter however. Hard to find first gear still. Have to cautiously manipulate it into first. Think I'm going to spring for a new shifter and kit.
