Default 1966 Mustang Transmission issue

I need a little help from of the tranny savvy people out there. I recently purchased a 66 mustang with a 289 4BBL with a C4 tranny in it. The previous owner stated that it started slipping then wouldn't go into gear except reverse. Even with the tranny issue I couldn't turn the deal down. I have dropped the pan and value body and from what I can see everything looks pretty good. The fluid didn't smell or look back. When I jack the back up and start the stang I can get the wheels to turn when I shift into gear but when I lower it and try it goes nowhere.
Really need some help!!!
If you have some helpful ideas send me an email at rjccellis@aol.com

Sounds like the bands/clutches are burned out. Automatic trans are fine until they're not...then they cost big bucks to fix. Have had Mustangs with C4s, 3-speeds, and 4-speeds. For me...can't beat a good Toploader 4-speed for durability. You MAY be able to change over to that for what it will cost to rebuild that C4.
