Default Wow $10,000

I just called some guy about paint. He told me 10,000! So i told him that i would do all the prep work and he told me no, and that he doesnt paint cars with their own prep work. He said he used o&m paint or something like that.

I dont know about where you live, Tyler, but around here money doesnt grow on trees. You could easily...easily do it yourself for that much. It wouldnt even be close.

And he's right not to let you do your own prepwork. He's not going to be blamed for a bad paint job because of someone elses shotty work. You will find this is pretty much the industry standard.

Prep it yourself and take it to mayco or any other place that would spray it for you. Just prep it real good and have them wipe it with an onion cloth before they spray it. They need to get all the dust and lint of the primer before spraying. Buy some books or videos showing you how to do body work. I got a job on the weekends when I was younger doing body repair just so I could learn. I preped my body and paid $50 to rent a paint booth 20years ago when I painted my 67. I am trying to find pics of it and when I do I will post them. Good luck!

I need to find somebody that will just spray it. I give them the paint and all they do is spray. Im pretty sure i wont mess up the prep as i will be reading books on it. I told him black, and he said he was doing a 61 vette for 10,000, but im not sure what kind of job. Im gonna call like ten shops tomorrow and check for prices. Maaco's paint sucks.

Tell him to shove that. You could paint it yourself. It would be a good experience for you.

Yeah, 66 is right, once you paint one car, you'll be hooked. It's amazing to see a car come from dirt to beautiful.

i bet that there are places that i could rent a booth and all the equipment. On the eastwood forums a 14yo painted his car.
I would be nervous about the final wet sand.

I am 17 and I painted a 66 f-100 for a friend. Painting isnt real hard but, you must have a steady hand. The paint ran in 2 or 3 places but I sanded them down and the whole truck. I think I put about 4 coats of paint and 6 coats of clear and wet sanded it. Cost was about $400-500 for paint and good spray guns. I wish I had pics but, he sold the truck about 2 months ago.
