As indicated by your post, I believe that you may be wrong on your cylinder numbers. Standing in front of the car with the hood up, the front passenger side cylinder is #1 then it goes 234 then to the drivers side 5678

Your post indicates something diff. Double check your wire locations and firing order.

ok, i just enlarged your photo and your plug wires are clearly incorrect. don't quit your current job to become a mechanic, lol.

use the instructions here and locate them correctly.

i would leave number 1 in the existing location of the cap then go around counter clockwise and install them correctly. as mentioned, your cylinder numbers are in the top of the intake amnifold.

this might correct your carb screw prob also.

LOL, I have a 14" screen and enlarged the enlarged photo up to 400% and looked at the driver side only. I could clearly see the driver side is incorrect and by looking at the wires coming off the dist it is obvious that the passenger side is incorrect.

i could not see it until i enlarged it.

I dont hang out with those dorks I dont know your buddy either

I cant even determine with 100% confidence which which plug wire is one so naturally im suspicious :P

To the OP

1) Cut all the wires loose from that zip tie thing so you can easily see and move each plug wire.

2) Find plug wire (1) this is the wire that runs to cylinder 1. Cylinder one is front of engine on passenger side as mentioned in an earlier post

3) label the top of that #1 spark plug wire on top of the distributor with a big fat 1 using a sharpie

4) KNOW that the rotor in the distributor spins anti clockwise (to the left)

5) KNOW that the firing order is 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8

6) Its super simple: If a clock hand were point at plug wire #1 (the one with the big fat sharpie mark 1) and moved back in time (anti clock wise) and pointed at the next plug wire that plug wire must go to cylinder number 5 back in time one more step that one would run to cylinder #4 and again back in time one more plug wire that one would run to cylinder # 2

7)

Here is a helpful picture

It should be noted that your plug wire #1 may not be in the same spot on the distributor as shown in the picture. That does not matter just find plug one and go anti clockwise from there the next one will be cly #5 and so on

What if where #1 (dist)is now, isn't really # 1? While the wires would be in the correct order, they wouldn't fire at the right time. Might want to gt the engine to TDC and see where the rotor is pointing to 'know' where # 1 is first.

I cut the zip ties and ran down each wire. Bad news is that they are, in fact, in 15426378 order going to the cylinders. Good news, if you can call it that, is that 1467 are the four not firing. This indicates to me that 1 is not where (my mechanic - not me! Ha!) thought it was? I will pull the cap and try to figure out TDC and see what happens. The continued help is VERY appreciated!!
