Default '66 mustang. New engine questions

I have a 1966 mustang coupe. It currently has an inline 6, 200 cubic inch engine. Planning to pull it out for another. The question being, A: will a ford inline 6 300 cubic inch fit on an automatic C4 tranny with minimal problems? and B: will the engine even fit in the coupe? Not sure if it's too tall for the mustang.

The 300 is a pretty heavy engine as well. Not sure you'd be happy with the handling after the swap.

Sorry. It's the original engine with matching numbers. I'm going to have to hang on to it, probably to rebuild it if the replacement starts wearing out or if i just want to put it back in. Do you know what the bhp is on it? I know Ford rated it at 120-130. Is that true? I know most V8 ratings were actually lower than what they put out.

Unless you're dead set on keeping the whole car original, if you want 300cid, why not just drop in a 289 or 302? Sure, you'll have to replace some susspension components, but putting 6-cylinders in Mustangs wasn't one of Ford's better inspirations, IMO...

The answer to that is a paranoid parent, and money. I'm currently 15 and working on this with my uncle. My mom thought all V8s jump right to 400+ hp. Naturally i explained how the older 289s and 302s don't top 300 without modifications and how her mini van would have the same hp. My uncle has a more reasonable arguement as they are more collectable and would cost more and require slight mods to the engine mounts. We'll see what happens. Seems like very little is pened in at this point, becides the paint, intirior, and hubcaps.

In the same boat as you brother! Teenage restoration is a little more challenging working with parents and very limited budget but trust me it's defeneitly worth it. I let my project die off at 16 and now I'm getting back into at 18 and I wish I never would have wasted so much time. Just a little advice from your very slight elder
