Default Gas tank gauge issues

Ok, starting from the top.
As I am now driving my 69 while I am working on it I have ran into a problem. My gas gauge doesn't work, That isn't my biggest problem though. I haven't began to determine if it is the fuse, the wiring the float in the tank etc. The real problem I am having is that every time I fill the tank it kicks gas out all over the back and the bumper before it stops. and if that wasn't bad enough I filled it right before work and I park on a small hill and with the rear down it was leaking out the cap.
Are these normal problems??? or do I have a problem??

A lot of modern fuel nozzles at gas stations suck dick. They spill fuel while fueling up, and have a tendency to overfill the tank.

As for the gauge, you can replace the sending unit, and also try to make sure the tank is grounded to the chassis properly.

with the key on, take the sender wire off at the tank and ground it.Your guage should peg full.If it does, that means the wire forward is good and its a sender issue. If it doesnt, could be a bad wire, guage or instrument voltage regulator
