Default Need a hand choosing replacement radiator

I know very little about radiators, they're one of those things that you don't pay attention to until something goes wrong so I appreciate any knowledge you guys can impart.

Take a quick look at the chart on this page of the catalog:

http://www.nationalpartsdepotcatalog...talog/108.asp#

What do the different options mean as far as:

Imported Replacement
Ready Rad
Super H.E.

and also see how it's split into two sections?

Std Cool
HD or w/AC

My car has AC so I assume I need to choose from one of those options in the right hand section, but can someone explain how the models differ just based on having AC or not?

much thanks

hello.

we need to know:

how many tubes your current rad is.

how thick is the core nt the top.

how many rows deep it is.

what your outdoor temp is at the hottest.

e3cattly how hot yoiur car runs is slow traffic.

how hot ut runs at fwy speed.

do you have ac.

do you use it.

do you have a radiator shroud.

how many blades is your fan.

is it fixed or on a clutch.

if it is a clutch wow many revolutions it turns when you spin it hsard by hand.

how far is your engine bored.

what is your compression

what is your current thermostat rating.

don't worry about he, hc, ac or abcde rads. a good rad has big tubes and lots of them.

most overseas radiators have small tubes which is bad and their constructin is bad you will likely be very sorry if you buy one.

most cars bored .030 over with ac in 100 degrees can just get away with a 3 row high efficiency from us radiator aka coolcraft.com they are around $300.00. this is with a shroud and 6 blade fan.

It's the original stock rad for the vehicle...69 Grande, 351W. Most of the vehicle is stock and original, very little in the way of modification other than cables, hoses, etc
Outdoor temp gets as hot as 100, but that's abnormally hot for NY, 80-90 would be the norm in the hottest part of summer.
Normally the car doesn't run especially hot, even in slow traffic, the temp gague is typically in the middle
Yes it has AC, yes I use it in the summer
No shroud and the fan has 5 blades,
Clutch, I dunno that, sorry, I'm at work and the car is in storage so I can't just walk over to it.
Engine is bored to 4.030, Compression 9-1-1

I bought one from Advance Auto for my '65. It is a 3 row, cost $86 plus tax with an online 40% off coupon code. It looks just like the ones advertised in the Mustang supplier catalogs. It is not a top quality product, but looks OK and works just fine. I won't be putting a lot of miles on or making long trips, so I believe that it will work for me. If the car was a daily driver, I think I'd go for a better quality unit.

Same year car and engine. I purchased an aluminum 3 core radiator from Champion and it has done extremely well. No problems with returning a product that was incorrect either. Great price as well. I did put a higher pressure radiator cap on it though.

Nice! You don't happen to know the model# of the rad and cap you bought do you? That'd make it easy to track down.

was it this one by chance? http://www.championradiators.com/For...radiator-67-70

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.
hello;

that is a chinese rad, however, it is one of the better chinese rads and works decently and should be marginal in your car. it is the smallest one i would use.

heres a good rad. tell them you want a 3 row high efficiency if you go this route.

http://www.coolcraft.com/ford-mustan...-radiator.html

a stant brand 14 lb lever cap is fine.

i would run a stant premium 180 thru 195 thermostat.

Champions aren't Chinese, they're made in California.
