Default Sanding Question

I have a question about sanding the hood oranaments on the 68 hood. Also the front and rear headlight/taillight panels. I know these panels are made out of alumnium and the hood ornaments are made out of potmetal so they cant really withstand sand blasting, nor should 80grit be used on them. I tryed using stripit on the hood ornaments but it didn't work very well--any suggestions on how to sand these?

I also tried using 180 grit on the panels and it sands fine, but its hard to get around the curves of a 68 front end headlight panel.

Any suggestions on how to do this efficently?

you have a couple of options.

1) the easiest thing to do is get new headlight buckets and quarter end caps. They arent too expensive, and you'll have a freshly primed and ready to sand piece.

2) use a sanding sponge instead of a hard block to get the paint off. Maybe try some strip-x on them a couple times and see if that helps at all. With paint strippers, Ive found that sometimes you have to do multiple passes to get the paint to lift off.

What hood ornaments are you talking about? Only in a rare occasion and a special option do you have a hood ornament. If you are talking about the F.O.R.D on the front of the hood, then just replace them with new ones. And the headlight buckets as well.

bah, apolgies, not talking about the emblems, but the signal ornaments in the 67/68 hood.

@nualln-- I dont have the money to buy new ones, so im going to have to sand these down and stick with them. Ill try a sanding sponge though for using chemicals have never really appealed to me.
