Default Safely installing gas charged shocks?

Hi all!
I am installing a new set of KYB Gas-a-Just shocks. The instructions are not that great. There is a band of fiberglass tape to be cut when they are in place. My problem is the shock is to short with the tape around it to get it installed. I seem to be about 1 in. short. Anyone installed these and could help me out?
Thx, Walt

Default RE: Safely installing gas charged shocks?

Just cut the banding and let them extend (which they will do rather slowly). It does not take much pressure to colapse the shock shaft to install the bolts and nuts.

They are banded to allow smaller packaging, and to protect the shafts.
