Got home and smelled gas looked under my 1965 mustang fastback and their was a pretty large puddle. Of course I freaked out, popped the hood and found my adjustable fuel pressure regulator leaking. It was on the car when I got it and I've never adjusted it. It looks like a chrome universal regulator.

what's the best one to replace it? I have a electric fuel pump. I know not to even start the car until its replaced. Very dangerous. So since its stopped leaking can I just take the bad one off and go replace it or will the line keep leaking gas if I remove it?? I'm no mechanic,but I know I can't drive it to get it fixed. Just want to make sure its not gonna leak badly if I remove it to replace.

Depends where the regulator is. However, since you said you opened the hood and saw it leaking, I would suspect it is on the drivers side fender wall above the level of the tank. If that is the case you should be able to just remove it. The leak should have removed any pressure. If yo don't have the replacement, you can insert each tube end into a plastic bag with a rubber band around it to keep the dirt out while you get the new one. The fuel should not drain out of the carb, and being higher than the tank will keep the tank from emptying.
If you don't have a dead engine pump cut off switch, now would be a good time to install one. Also think about a fire extinguisher. Make sure it is a Class B or Class B/C for flammable liquid. Do more than think get one.

+1 on the extinguisher. Somewhere, maybe a Haggerty bulletin, I saw the most common insurance claim for older/classic/hot rods is for fire damage. A little damage is better than a write off.

Yeah, I have had a fire extinguisher since DAY ONE!! I also have a kill switch.
The Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator that's leaking is just below the clear fuel filter, only about 12 inches from the Weber 4bbl carb. It actuall rest right above the Passenger side valve cover. It has one of those steel fuel lines, so I can't install it anywhere else unless its after that metal one stops.

Shouldn't have a problem pulling the regulator. It is well above the fuel tank and the Weber won't back feed. Cold engine, remove the negative battery lead, rag underneath, and go for it.

Edelbrock 8190
Should be a nice upgrade. Mine was a 1-5psi this is 4-9psi. I think mine was set at 2, so I don't know the difference it wil make.

If you are running an Edelbrock carb, you should be probably running at 5.5 psi. Edelbrock does not want you to run above 6 or you might get flooding on tight turns. Your old regulator might have been a little on the low side.

Weber 4 bbl Carb, I don't know why the old fuel regulator was turned so low. My carb has never been a problem

OK, I took the leaking one off, but the 8190 Edelbrock fuel pressure regulator is so much heavier that when I got it hooked up it was resting on passenger side valve cover. I don't think that's a good idea, so I took it off. Like I said before I have a steal fuel line comes right up in front of my distributor.
SO, where should I mount the new regulator???

Installed fuel pressure regulator like the one that leaked because it's lighter. Only has 1 to 5 psi. I put it at 3, which it says is correct for V8.
