67 mustang 351w 1990 t-5 trans died replaced with rebuilt but wont slide into place shifter hole looks lined up but looks like a 1 to 2 inch gap between trans and bell housing im no mechanic so any help would be nice would like to be driving car thanks

Did you replace the clutch as well? If so, did you use a clutch disc install tool? Also, did you get the right clutch? Most T5's have a high spline count (I forget how many, exactly) input shaft, so you need a clutch for a late model rather than your '67.

Do NOT use the flange bolts to pull the two together. Figure out what's wrong first, then it should slide right into place.

didnt change anything i was just hoping to take out the old t-5 and slide in the new one

Unless the clutch is new, it might be a good time to replace it anyway. Much easier than doing it down the road. New pilot and throwout bearings would come with a clutch kit and should be replaced as well.

That said, likely the splines aren't mating up properly. Pull it apart, spin the input shaft a little (it is in neutral, right?), and give it another try.

you may have the wrong t5. in 1993/94 the shaft was 1" longer on the t5 trans. check the vin. on the one you are trying to install

94/95 t5 trans missions use a slightly longer input shaft, 3/4" longer, as well as a longer bell housing. So I doubt that's your issue, unless someone has used the sn95 input with a foxbody bell then even so it would only be 3/4 inch differenc.

Check the pilot bearing ID compared to the input shaft tip OD. There were some differences in the 4 banger t5s using a smaller pilot bearing. Maybe your old trans was out of a 4 banger and this one is for a v8/v6.

Ew, I thought it was a rebuild of the old unit, not a replacement rebuild. Definitely check the input shaft as mentioned.

Also, here is some helpful info about casting numbers. If you don't have the proper year World Class T5, you need to get one. The extra torque of a 351W is already a strain on the T5; a non-WC unit won't hold up.

the old trans had a tag according to the numbers on old trans it was out of a 1990 5.0 an the rebuild i bought was from a guy in texas on ebay with good feed back.i also read somewhere that if a 5/8 socket doesnt fit over the front shaft its for a v-8 if it does its for a 4 just something i read
