Hey guys,

I just recently bought this car for my wife and I am wanting to do a manual to an auto transmission swap. The car is an inline 6 with a 3-speed. Have any of you done this before and have any suggestions? Or possibly one of you guys may want to swap parts if you are wanting a manual. I'm in the upstate of SC. Thanks in advance!

First, pretty much no one wants the 3-spd manual. The question you need to ask is do you want an original style 3-spd auto, or go to an AOD overdrive style? You'd be surprised the quantity of parts necessary to do the swap...torque converter, bellhousing, neutral safety switch, wiring harness, shifter, shifter hardware, are just a few items off the top of my head. If you're serious, and have about $3K you can probably put in an aftermarket AOD kit. I'm sure any number of places such as CJ's would have what you need.

Although the above is true, you can do it pretty cheap if you go with used parts. Look for a used AOD trans, you should be able to get one out of a recycle yard with the converter and bell housing for about 300, you will then need a shifter along with a flywheel. Please take note: you will need a 157 tooth 28oz. flywheel

im not sure when ford changed but I think about 79/80 they went to a 50oz flywheel. make sure you get the right one. If your frugle and do it yourself you can prob. do it for about 700-800

hello;

a junk yard trans will likely need rebuilding so plan in another 800.00 for that.

the driveshaft yoke is different but you can buy them new.

you need a separate trans cooler or if your rad has been replaced there may be one in it.

.you can sell some of your parts. put them on ebay.

you can also leave the clutch pedal in and hide it under the floor.

the manual brake pedal is slightly smaller.

you need the auto trans shift box for the shift lever, look on ebay, it is not reproduced that i know of.
