Default 66 289 Trouble Starting

New to the forum, and my Mustang is at least new to me (so take it easy on the rookie). I live in AZ, and the car had been sitting for a couple of months, and refused to start for me the other day. It is cranking, and with starter fluid will fire for a split second, then fail. No starter fluid, it won't fire at all. I put some fresh gas in it, and poured a small amount down the carb, but same result. Sounds like potentially something wrong with my fuel pump. Any thoughts/ experience?

Thanks

the needle is probably stuck try tapping on the carb with the plastic end of the screw driver. it ought to start on the gas being poured straight into the engine though

hello;

bummer

also, if that doesn't work there is a little arm on the front of the carb if it is an early ford or on the driver front bottom side if it is a holley. this arm must move when the throttle is opened. if it does not then push on it mderately hard to see if you can make it move. even if you get it to move and your car runs. the internal parts might be a but dried up from sitting and could benefit from being replaced.

if this is not the prob either then i would disconnect the fuel line from the carb and connect a fuel hose to it then stick the open end in a bottle and jump the solenoid to turn it over to see if gas squirts out. if it just trickles or there ius no gas either your pump is bad or the line from the tank is plugged with goo or the sock on the sender in the trunk is plugged.

you can disconnect the line going to the pump and blow thru it to see if it is plugged. have someone remove the gas cap and listen for bubbles as you do this or just keep blowing into the line for a minute. it takes a minute to clear.

Ethanol is a bitch. A worthless, carb killing bitch.
