Default 351C rebuild

Hey Guys.... I am restoring a 1971 Mach 1 with a 351C motor... All is original from what I can tell motor has never been out of the car.

I am just wanting to rebuild the motor with a cam (size) for for a little lope, decent carb and intake where it looks sharp and has a little get up to it... What would be recommended for a tight budget..

Thanks in advance

hello;

ok cool . . unfortunately there is nothing cheap about dinmg this . . need to know if its the orig engine and if it is a factory 4 barrel . . they made a few different variations but one option for a mild upgrade in perf you might look at is the following:

comp cam xe262h cam . . ok with stock exhaust

or...an xe268h at the max for $290.00, if you have at least 3.23 gears and headers . . a 2000 rpm stall will help imensely but is not absolutely necessary.

if your rockers have aluminum fulcrums you might want to buy the steel ones.

do not use comp lifters, crane anti pump $95.00 lifters.

$60.00 push rods with .040" id holes if your lifter holes are larger than that.

you will need new $120.00 springs.

some sort of eddy $290.00 intake depending your eng specs etc..

quick fuel $375.00 650 cfm vacuum secondary slayer carb with electric choke and ford kick down if you have an auto trans.

you may need KB $270.00 flat top pistons for even more perf depending on your heads.

get the block milled for around $160.00 so the pistons are .003" - .005" below the surface.

get a new $140.00 pioneer/durabond sfi rated damper or a stock one.

get the engine balamnced for around $200.00 or you will be very unhappy.

get a standard melling oil pump and disassemble it and clean it.

buy a high perf oil pump drive shaft.

break it in properly with joe gibbs break in oil.

use oil with zddp in it like valvoline vr-1 10w-40

use a jomar oil filter from summit or a wix.

$28.00 MSD anti vibration epoxy coil.

$6.00 mr gasket distributor springs . . remove the lighter one only from your distributor and install just 1 new spring . . set youtr idle timing tpo 10 degrees btdc.

buy a $23.00 borg warner v311 adjustable vacuum advance from amazon . . set the 3/32 allen screw inside the vacuum port to 6 turns pout from full in.

OP, check the compression on all cylinders before doing anything else...
