Default Speedo drive

We have a 67 coupe that originally came with a 6 cyl and a three speed. The previous owner dropped an '87 302 into it but still retained the 3 speed. Tried to put a new speedometer drive in and could not feel the gear that is on the tail shaft by putting my finger into the speedo hole. Thought the gear was gone. Had the tail shaft housing removed and the mechanic who did it said that the gear on the tail shaft is about 3 inches further back than the hole in the tail shaft housing. The tag on the tranny is shown as an
RAB-JG15 (or 3)
5URRA?136
Not sure I can read it correctly. The tranny may have come out of a Bronco because I think the engine did. I am told trucks had column shifts so maybe he used the old tail shaft housing on the Bronco tranny.
I don't know how to fix this except with a GPS speed sensor since we have put in a New Vintage electronic dash.
I would like to use New Vintage sender but don't know if I can get either a different tail shaft or tail shaft housing. Anyone using a GPS speed sensor?
