After working with it some more last night... I found that I don't have leaks on the tubes. The air leak I was hearing was from the hose outlet. To check this, I filled up the top of the bottom header and put bubbles on said header. Added air and checked.
No bubbles.

Found the 1st rusted out spot. It's in the trunk. I'm sure there will be more, but I hate to find stuff like this. Kinda makes you sick.

This is the front of the engine compartment. To me, its looks clean & in good shape. But...I have not got into the hidden stuff yet also. I'm sure there is some spots like in the trunk.

Also, What is this hard, crack filler, putty like stuff. Its all around and tough to get off. Its painted. I know it's some kind of sealer.

Also.... I read in some other post...that there is some kind of seal that goes around the flange/ edge of the the gas tank opening. I guess it's used to keep the moisture/ water out? I read that some use silicone, but that not whats suppose to be there.

.
the putty is dried up factory seam sealer.

use caulking tape on the tank but you could use silicone too if you wanted.

check your distributor vacuum can with a vacuum pump or suck on the end of the line . . if it leaks your car will be incredibly slow.

your radiator hose is bad.

Thanks Barnett. The hoses are to be replaced. I'll have to check the dist.
Got the new tank yesterday. Got the pick-up & float today. Any special way to install the pick up? Got new 5/16 gas hose for the short pieces that go on the gas line.

Pulled the carb tonite to clean. Got a new air filter.

Radiator. Still messin with it. Think I,ll just get a new one. Just don't know where together it. CJPony?

If that's the only rust that pops up, I'd say the car is in pretty darn good shape...some of the others I have seen are twisted rough

CjPony is good choice for parts.
I would look into all the rubber suspension parts as well. It will be worth a few extra dollars and a little more time to make it drive nice.

Check the distributor vacuum. All good.

When it comes to the carb.,how much can be put in the carb cleaner?

the bowl has something (cone on the inside) that feels like plastic. Also one of the pump's arms is make of plastic.
