.
if he is going to build the engine, there should be no "tear down" charge . . been doing this 35 years ans never heard of such a thing . . if he is just tearing it down and you then take it away that is different.

I'm not too concerned about the money at this point. I just want the car to run hard when I want to use it, then be able to run hard again the next time without having to worry about it failing.

another concern I have with putting a 363 in a 66 for the street is overkill. Most of my car is upgraded but I don't know if the car itself could handle 500hp safely without having to do even more improvements to it. I don't like the thought of having to do everything I have upgraded already, over again.

I think im gonna pull the engine and see what happened this time.
Let him find the problem for you...rebuild from there addressing the issue.

Balancing the piston assemblies is not that expensive and certainly a lot less (from a preventative standpoint) than tearing down a motor and rebuilding it...again.

I think the fee was when the engine guy was going to tear it down but he wasn't sure if MonsterBilly was going to rebuild it. In which case a fee was in in order. If it's a done deal on the rebuild then it all kind of morphs into one bill.

Racer Dave, you are correct. I by no means would ever expect a company or individual to do any work for me without getting paid. Therefore if I do not have it rebuilt, whomever works on it must be paid for their time. I own a business and know how much things cost.
Hopefully the problem can be found and addressed rather than replacing my shortblock

.
if someone guarantees that they will find your problem and they do NOT . . they are not owed a penny because they did NOT provide the service you paid for its that simple . . i was partners in the biggest mustang shop in the western us, and for some strange reason, all our customers expected is to provide the services they were paying us for . . i would love to get paid for not providing the services i guaranteed i would perform.

your engine has blown up twice under mild use after an extremely short amount of time, therefore, someone paid for services that were not provided and full restitution should be made by the service provider of these services.
