Default 66 stock gas tank replacement

So the fuel gauge has not worked in many years, after doing me research and realizing the sending unit is in the tank, and most say to replace the tank as they are mostly rusted, so i ordered a new tank kit with sending unit from Cj pony parts, and today cleared out the trunk and this is what i found.

tank was rusted, leaked fuel from the top while i removed it.

cleaned out all the old gasket material and scraped off some rust.

i then touched up the whole thing with automotive primer like it says to do so in the CJ pony parts gas tank installation video.

now waiting on the new tank, there was lots of rust in this tank, the old gas came out yellow.

I would put some paint on top of the primer.

Definitely put some paint on that primer, even if just straight gloss black. That primer will absorb moisture and rust really easy.

New fuel pump? how come? where is the fuel pump located by the way?

The original color of the car was ivy green, but the first owner repainted it about 25 or so years ago, its now this burgundy.
