You're going to leave your springs wrapped in duct tape?


I have had luck using penetrating oil to flesh out squeaky leaf springs. I like Kroil.

Yes, in dark gray you hardly notice its there. Keeping debris and dirt away from leaves is easy now, and I can lube them without making a mess because the lubricant stays inside with the leafs. Since electrical tape is underneath, there won't be any residue from duct tape either.

Have you replaced the plastic spring seperators at the ends of the leaves?

They also make black duct tape, but what's next? Bailing wire?

Don't know what bailing wire has to do with this. Like I said you wouldn't notice it's there unless you're under the car, and this idea is based on gaiters (which I'm sure you've heard of) which are known to work.

Everyone knows lubricant of some kind can really help leaf springs work, especially with no teflon pads or nylon between the leafs themselves. But the problem with this is it leaves wet lubricated surfaces in at least the gaps between leafs which we all know is great at getting dirty and then drying out the lube. Noise follows. If I were rich I would have a hidesman make me some in black leather that stitch together.

Not sure how much your car gets driven but I want to drive my car as much as possible this year (including autocross), and seeing as its a running project any time I save myself later without corner cutting or hurting anything its a plus. I'm currently planning: next alignment, subframe connectors, headers/exhaust, fixing small oil leak, new rear wheel studs, and fiero seat install so I have plenty to keep me busy besides squeeky leafs.

Oh and the plastic separators are perfect as these springs have less than 1000miles, mostly easy drives.

The tape won't last. Debris will hit it, heat, moisture plus spring movement etc. The tape will fall off at some point. Good springs should have a nylon or similar spring separator that lets them move freely.
