Yes, that says it. My father in law can't find the keys to the old 67 and none of the inlaws know where to look. So....what do I do? There probably isn't a way just to take the VIN over to a dealer and get some help is there?

lock smith, the dealer will not be able to cut keys by vin for anything over 10 years old. a locksmith can take apart the cylinder and make a key that fits it.

Would that mean taking the cylinder out of the steering column or perhaps door?

you can do that or simply have them come out and make one by hand.

I also noticed that rockauto.com sells ignition lock cylinders....and door lock cylinders....but I wonder if there is a way to get them to match....??

lol...ok. I suppose I'd save some coin if I got the lock cylinder out of a door and went to a locksmith as opposed to having one come out, right? Also, the door and ignition keys are the same?

im not sure if the keys are the same for the door and ignition, but call the lock smith and see prices, most work out of vans so its no cheaper to bring it in

Here is what I was quoted from the locksmith I emailed.
According to my reference material the ignition and doors/trunk were different keys, so i would need both the ignition and door lock to make a complete set. If your confident enough to take out the ignition, the door lock should be no trouble. It is definitely cheaper to bring the locks in than for us to come out. Locksmith labor runs $72/hr billed in 15min increments. depending on the condition of the locks I estimate 45mins to 1.5 hrs for both locks plus the cost of keys @ $2.96ea tax included.
