This GT350 rear end has a trac-loc which is what the 68's came with and 3.70 gears.. which seams to match up..
I would buy a rear end that is the correct width for the app and a trac loc over an equa slop . It simply makes way more sense to do things properly.

You can get housings from Currie Enterprises.

You need to get all the numbers off the Shelby housing and center section and also see if it has a pinion snubber on it, however, selling used parts for a profit is a hard way to go, especially ones that are big and heavy like that which must be shipped if the buyer isn't local.

There is no mystery or detail in measuring axles . The following measurements are from outside of the axle flanges where the wheels mount . Subtract 5" for bare housing overall length.

65-66 Mustang 57.25 inches
67-70 Mustang 59.25 inches
71-73 Mustang 61.25 inches
77-81 Versailles 58.50 inches
74 Maverick 8" 56.50 inches
75 Mustang II 8" 57.00 inches
67-73 Mustang, Torino, Ranchero, Fairlane 9" 59.25 inches to 61.25 inches
57-59 Ranchero and station wagon rears, 57.25 inches
66-77 Bronco 9", 58 inches
77-81 Granada/Versailles, 58 inches
67-71 Comet, Cougar, Mustang, Fairlane, 59.25 inches
71-73 Mustang, 61.25 inches
64 Falcon 58 inches
67 Cougar 60 inches
67 Fairlane 63.50 inches (coil springs)
72 Ford Van 3/4 ton 68 inches
73-86 65.25 inches
57-59 Ranchero and station wagon 57.25 iches (narrowest 9" housing)
66-77 Bronco 58 inches but has 5-on-5 1/2 inch diameter bolt circle
67-73 Torinos, Rancheros, Fairlanes 59.25 inches or 61.25 inches
67-71 Comets, Cougars, Fairlanes 59.25 inches

Thanks. Since I have the 57.25 housing I'll keep it. Question, if I buy one of those kits that has the trac-loc, gears, and new bearings and seals.. how hard is it to change everything? I have a dial indicator and most measuring tools, but what about changing the gears and adding a trac-loc? Is it just setting up the shims? Seals and bearings? And do the 5 lug axles match the front on a 65/66 mustang? Normally I'd go measure, but they're located at different places. Thanks again.

Sure, no prob.

If you are mechanically inclined and have the tools, you can setup a posi and gears yourself . There are videos on youtube showing how to do it.

Moving the ring gear in and out is only used for setting the lash/play between the gears.

Moving the pinion in or out affects the play ad the location of the pinion with the ring gear.

There is special grease that you can buy that is designed to show the gear pattern.
