Default Need some help with a Speedo Cable

Happy Friday everyone,
I have a 67 Mustang that I'm putting together which was someone else's project. It did not come with a speedo cable. I bought a new speedo cable for a 67 Mustang, but it doesn't fit onto the speedometer. Since this car has a drivetrain out of 70 Mustang (302, 4 speed toploader) i then bought a 70 speedo cable....which is closer to attaching to the speedometer than the '67 cable, but still doesn't fit. Never had this problem with any other Mustang speedometer/cable. Anyone run into the problem before or advise a solution?
Thank you,
Keith
