Collapsible steering column???
So we're about a month away from my Mustang getting out of the body shop (finally!!), and my husband and I are looking at things to do to make the car safer for me to drive back and forth to work. I'll be putting in power disc brakes on the front (leaving the rear drums in for now), and we're debating the pros and cons on 3 pt seat belts.
Someone at my husband's work suggested I get a collapsible steering column so I don't impale myself in the event of an accident, and after some searching...
I have no idea what I'm looking at.
I have an inline six, floor shifting 3-speed, and everything (as far as I know) steering-wise is stock. I saw Flaming River had columns, but I don't even know what I should be selecting under the options.
Help????
Also, if I do a collapsible column, can I still upgrade to the electric power steering in the future? I believe that requires cutting the steering column down.

Mid 67 Ford changed to a collapsing column. You can tell them because they will have a rag joint at the bottom. There are several post on this board about the change over so search the board. It is not the easiest job but has been done by several people.

By the way, if you go the electric power steering route, the conversion includes a collapsible section - so you get that benefit even with your stock '66 column.
