Wink 64.5 Will not idle smooth runs rough

I have a 1964.5 with 170 and autolite 1100. Rebuilt carb, runs like garbage and then straightens out and runs smooth. New plug wires, have checked timing, set float height, have tried adjusting idle set screw. Looking for help!

so it doesnt always run like crap?

When does it run okay and when does it run poorly? Is there a certian situation that will cause it to run poorly.

for example runs great off the line during hard accel then shift into second gear and it falls on its face.

Runs very ruff once first started then all of a sudden after struggling for 15 minutes pops out of it.

Can you assist with some 170 set up questions?

whats the choke plate doing?
Is that an electric choke or mechanical....
When the engine is warm is the choke plate fully open and not restricting the airflow through the carb

When did it last run right?
Why was the carb rebuilt?

Have to use the manual choke to start it, when it starts dying, I open it all the way.

Carb was rebuilt along with the engine.

okay when its warm after about 4 minutes of running if you open the choke all the way so its not restricting airflow does the car run fine?....The choke should be open all the way when warm....if you are driving around with 3/4 choke when warm....yeah it will run poorly....What about the other questions I asked?

Mainly have just have to use the choke to start it and then open it 100%, I have visually verified the 100%. Has gradually gotten worse. Curious about the hot idle setting? Currently the travel of the throttle plate will not allow it to go in that position.
