Screwed up my gas pedal/throttle cable. How do I adjust it back to where it should be
The return spring to the linkage on my carb broke so I had to replace it, in doing so I had to undo the throttle cable from the bracket. Now I've got two problems I need to fix:
1)the pedal is not in the right place, it's way too close to the floor, so even pushing it all the way down the throttle is only like 1/3 of the way open. How do I adjust this properly to get it right? Do I need to pull from the pedal side or what?
2)with the new return spring the pedal is much harder to push...should I stretch the spring out a little bit to loosen it up a bit?
thanks

I'm still not sure why the pedal position dropped the way it did but in any event I did some research on these forums and a couple others and what most people recommended for this was to pull the cable slack through the pedal arm and use spacers to get it to the right height for your vehicle. So it's not an elegant solution but it works. I used a plastic cylinder spacer I had in my toolbox but you could use a piece of small diameter pvc pipe or really anything of the right diameter. To prevent the cable from slipping back through the spacer, I put a washer on the end and secured it with a zip tie. Like I said, not elegant but it works great now.
The pedal is still quite 'tight' with the new spring but I'm going to drive it like that for a bit and see if it loosens up naturally on it's own.

I hate a stiff throttle spring. Buy a couple different ones and use them until you find the one (or two) that do the trick. GM use to use two throttle return springs, one inside the other so in case of failure you wouldn't be SOL.
