Default 67 mustang with 72 302 sputtering issues

My 67 coupe is acting odd. It runs alright until you floor it an then it sputters and misses, sometimes are worse than others. Also a couple weeks ago the car was running ok then it held back and a second later backfired really loud similar to the crack of a shot gun. Today it did that again and afterwards felt like it ran a lot smoother. I drive the car about 5 days a week. The engine is a 72 302 with edelbrock four barrel carb. Can someone tell me what to do?

might be fuel starvation....this is quite likely

it could be due to a plugged jet but that is somewhat inconsistent with the statement that "its okay until you floor it."

Lack of fuel volume is a very good match for what you have described
this lack of fuel volume could be due to:
1) Obstruction like a plugged fuel filter, pinched fuel line, collapsed or rotted fuel line
2) bad fuel pump that is unable to keep up with demands

You can take the fuel line off, place the fuel line in a jar and crank the engine over for a few seconds you should get a good volume of fuel...Like this:

If its just a little **** stream that comes out...thats your issue.
If its a good volume then its probably something else.

Let us know.

I think It's I've been running rich, there is plenty of fuel flow and I think to much. I tighten the card adjustment and it's much better

I would guess the coil is going bad or the pickup if you have electronic ignition.
