cant stand the movie. Nic Cage cannot suspend disbelief. You always know its Nic Cage when he is on the screen. Add the technical BS that is on par with "fast and fictitious" movies for complete fantasy, and the movie loses its charm.
...and the movie Bullitt is the complete oppositte, one of the best car duels in movie history, McQueen's fastback vs Bad guys's Dodge Charger, not only was it awesome, but done realistically, not fantastical like the remake of Gone in 60 seconds with Cage.
Viva Bullitt!

I believe I pointed that out as well:

RE: Mustang "Eleanors" - do ya love em? or hate em?
Well at the risk of being attacked I will speak up. I personally think the Shelby body mods really made the original Mustang look more "mean" and/or racey. When the movie came out, I fell in love with the car all over again. The movie was okay but nowhere as good as Bullitt. Anyway, I agree that "Eleanor" has jacked up the prices and that is bad if you want one but good if you have one. When there is interest in a car or it has a following there mustbe some appeal. I still love the look and I don't feel that it will be dated because it is so much like a Shelby, it has the 65 R type bumperless nose which I have always loved about the 65 R and the rest such as the flares, skirts and scoops just add to the road race look. Those that don't like it have the right and purists never liked "restomods" but some of us can't afford Shelbys or rare versions of Mustangs. I'm taking a plain run-of-the-mill 67 coupe that was otherwise destined for the junkyard and making my own version of an Eleanorized Shelby type coupe because I like it and if others don't I'll be bummmed but I'm not building it for others. It's my dream car and I want it to be a cross between a Cali Special and Shelby. If you walk past it at a car show and ignore it,it won't hurt my feelings. Then again I think the red headed step child 78 King Cobra is cool! And for the record my "why bother clone" with a 429 and 4 wheel disk brakes is more than a rice burner with glass stuck on it!
RE: Mustang "Eleanors" - do ya love em? or hate em?
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. It's not directly related to Eleanor but it is a clone of sorts and it is pretty sharp! I've seen some coupes that have been made into Eleanor and they too look sharp. The one below is kinda what mine will look like.
RE: Mustang "Eleanors" - do ya love em? or hate em?
Eleanor is a code name given by the theves in the movie to a 73 Mustang in the originial and a GT500 in the remake. The Eleanor creating the buzz is just a customized Mustang but supposed to be a Shelby. The aftermarket is simply recreating the appearance of the movie car with specific fiberglass body parts. Not much different than Caroll Shelby did in the 60's with the Mustang. Unique performance which is the main company making "Eleanor" or GT500E's as they call them offer various levels of performance upgrades inculding modern suspension and a superchaarged Shelby aluminum 427 called the Super Snake. Many guys here seem tobe bashing the"Eleanor" as a clone, but there are also a lot of white 65 & 66 Mustangs with blue strips cloning the original Shelby look. As for the look, you can buy just body kits and make your own or buy a turn key GT500E. People like myself are making a "restomod" Mustang with the fiberglass body mods but not a replica or clone of the movie car. As with anything there are some poorly doneexamples out there but I think the debate or question is asking what is your opinion of all the "Eleanor's" out there.
I hope this answers your question.
RE: Mustang "Eleanors" - do ya love em? or hate em?
^^^ And just to add to that...like them or hate them, the real GT500E codes built by Unique Performance are Licensed Shelby vehicles that come with a shelby vin and are added to the Shelby registery. If I had 214,000 bones to burn, I wouldn't completely count out buying a 725hp super snake.
