Default Strut Tower Brace?

I have a 5.0 Conversion on my 66'. I need a strut (shock) tower brace.

I have looked everywhere but I only find STBs for newer 5.0 Mustangs.

The only one I have found that will work with my application is one on ebay for $110:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TODAY.m238.lVI

If anyone knows of another product out there better than please let me know.

Thanks,

Hi Angelina...welcome to the forum. Hope we can help!

When you said you have a 5.0 conversion, not sure if you mean you have a late model 5.0 carburated motor or the full transplant 5.0 with fuel injection.

If you have a carburated 5.0, then you can use any of the standard Export braces from any of the Mustang suppliers. However if you are running an EFI upper intake, you probably already know the regular export braces will not clear.

I had this Laurel Mountain unit, and found that the cross bar, or Monte Carlo bar, went directly over the top of my distributor and I couldn't remove the distributor or wires.

I ended up custom building one (see my webpage below...down the left side) or you can order one like it from the sources listed at the bottom.

Hey James,

Does your brace barely clear the upper manifold on the left side or is there more space than it appears? I believe the Explorer intake I'm using is 1" to 2" taller than the Mustang, in which case, I would have a problem with any of the aftermarket ones listed on your website. I'm thinking that I may have to make one after all, perhaps cutting the ends off the one-piece cowl I just removed and welding something up. Grrr!

Jeff

Mine clears the stock upper intake by about 1/4". Any other intake would be a problem...

Thanks for the quick response.

To answer your question; yes, I do have an EFI 5.0

I do like the one you built for yourself however I don't have the tools or the time to build one

I am worried about the clearance for the EFI Intake on the Laurel Mountain Brace.

I will continue my search. I might bite the bullet and get the Laurel Mountain Brace.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone

I decided to try the one I found on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m32

It only costs $109 which is much less than all the rest I found. This one is a one piece which does include the "Monte Carlo" bar.

I will take photos before and after when I get it and let you all know how it worked out.

Thanks!
