Default V8 swap - 302 or 289?

Considering a V8 swap on my '66 coupe. It's a 200ci I6, and I have option to a 302 out of a '87 Cougar, or a 289 out of a '66 Stang. Gathering other parts like 8' rear, v8 spindles, springs, etc. but what advantages / disadvantages of each engine should I consider?
Thanks.

find a roller 302. you will have more options down the road as far as power upgrades goes.

289s and 302s (non rollers) are basically the same, just different bore and stroke to the 302. as far as physical size, they are the same so almost all parts for a 302 will work on a 289.

+1 on the roller motor,,, but,, a 66 289 sounds ok too.

You can buy linked roller lifters for either engine for about $400 or so though....

Either one would be Great!!But as sixt5 says the roller will give you more options down the road and in my opinion its a little better! It really depends on what YOU want!![8D]
