Default any one know stock C-code cam specs? I am considering

upgrading cam and/or carb while I've got my heads off. Block has 80K miles on it with original C4 (stock converter). I'm leary of replacing things that are in good working order, but am considering a small cam upgrade and 4bbl carb.
My other option is to put it back together and save for a complete rebuild in a few years.

Would also consider leaving cam alone and putting a 480 CFM autolite 4100 on top. Would this over-carb an otherwise stock 65 C-code?

The required carb size is going to depend on airflow and displacement. 500cfm would be about your max carb needed but would not hurt anything. As for the cam, I would wait until you upgrade other things unless that is what you are doing with the heads off. Usually new better flowing heads and a new cam work hand in hand.

Default Heads are off for a head gasket. While they were off

I found and purchased date correct 289 heads with larger valves. I don't know how much, if any, difference the valves make. I bought the heads to date match my block and was considering a torque cam and/or carb upgrade while they are off.

The stock cam is tiny, so a cam upgrade would boost power, but yeah, I'd wait until you could do heads as well since they do work with each other.

Best trap 107.11mph, we'll see what the new intake/carb setup does.
12.80 at 110.5mph NHRA DA corrected

I have to disagree with the other guys. Something like the Comp Cams XE250H would be a solid upgradefrom the stock cam, and would work really well with a 500CFM carb and intake.

What would reallyhelp flowwould be exhaust port-matching the new heads. The factory exhaust ports are absolutely horrible. A couple hours with a die grinder and a carbide bit will really open them up.

I agree with Sarfury. I would concider the 250H but it is only good untill 4800 rpm the 256H is a little bigger but will work good in a stock engine.

also upgrade te springs with the cam the stock springs will work on both those cams but an aftermarket spring would be better.

Default The heads have better springs

The heads have better springs (#275and good to .550 lift) but press in studs.
Are the roller tip rockers worth it?

Also, Imight just try toopen up the exhaust ports before mounting the heads.
Where is a good resource for directions/technique/materials needed for porting in a basement?
