Guys, i want to run a new new exhaust... i am alittle short on cash...to save some, i was thinkng about dumping after the muffler before the rear axle, insted of running pipes out the back..
What are the Pros and Cons of doing this?
i only drive it to and from work( 7 mins)and on the weekends.

I have a 66 coupe with a stock 289 and the mufflers dumped before the rear axles. I love it. When you cruise the in cabin noise can be a little much for some (I love it), some people say dont do it for the simple fact that "when sitting in traffic exhaust is closer to the windows and you can breath it up", I have never experienced this. When you are driving on the highway sounds the same as my buddies with the exhaust routed out the back. I say do it. Makes the back end look clean, you don't have to worry about routing the exhaust over the rear axle, and just plain sounds bad ass.
Im going to have to stand on the other end and say dont do it. I think 2 nice tips sticking out the back makes it look nice, and I doubt it would save you a butt load of cash. And the noise/fumes factor...
cons: smell like exhaust sometimes
cant really sit in traffic with the windows up if raining
hard to hear passengers and radio
pros:cheap than full pipes
sounds more badass
less weight

If you can smell the exhaust, that is a saftey issue- carbon monoxide. Reason enough to bring the exhaust all the way back.
I have been working on my exhaust latley and I didn't install that last bit of pipe, dumped before the axle- wayyy louder, IMO.
I say do it right, dump out the back.

Mine is dumped before the axle and it sounds crazy loud. If I could have (fuel pump in the way and it's 3" exhaust), I would have put them out the back, looks better and gives the car a finished look.
i a little worried about the carbon monoxide but i really want that badass sound.... would it help any if it came out the sides ?
if you want the sound of dumps buy single chamber flowmasters and run them all the way to the rear. that is what everyone with full tails say they sound like
