Sorry Mark first start did not work out. Love what you're doing to the car and the wheels and tires look great.

Good luck with next weekend.

I am assuming it is needed but does anyone know if that is so with a 1965 289 motor?
I am not running a regulator (one-wire alternator), so I did not use the diode. On my old 1970 442, I needed the diode as I had a run on issue. Try it first without it and if the car will not shut off when you turn off the ignition, then install the diode. Some need it and some do not.

When i rewired the car to add gauges I left the idiot light for the wife(and me) as I knew that she would not pay attention to the voltage gauge. I have heard that leakage throught the light will cause a problem so I think that i will add a terminal block with the diode on one side and the wires on the other to the light. This will make it easy to change in the future and will look clean This will be on the back of the gauges and should fix the problem if it occurs.

That will fix it. Most people also put a 470 ohm resistor across the light terminals (in parallel with the light). It is there just in case the light burns out. If the light burns out, your alternator will not generate a field and charge. Since the light is burned out, you may not realize it until it is too late.

come on warm weather, my mustang got kicked out of the garage temporarily, and its too cold to work on it outside, and I am sitting here dying to work on it, and reading this thread of excellent progress is only making me itch more to work on it....
in essence, your work is very motivating for me, and almost makes me want to go work quarter panels, and doors in 35 degrees...

Awesome! Congrats on getting it to start! (wasn't really doubting it) Now get it all together for the 45th. You have 3 weeks (pulls out stopwatch) Go!

I can't wait to see it as it progresses, on both projects btw.
