Default Hi-po Heads for 289

I have aline on some heads that are describe as 1966 289 Hi-po heads. How can I tell if these are Hi-po heads and would they be off a K code motor. Also what would the value of these heads if they are what they say they are.

I have no idea of the value, but I do know that the difference is that there are machined pockets for the valve springs. The non performance heads have the spring setting on a machined area that is level with the surface. I suppose that these pockets were machined to allow for a little taller valve springs.

hipo heads have screw in studs, but that's not a guarantee as that could have been modified. There's an easy way to tell though.
The double dot just above the 289 in the casting.
I'll see if I can find a picture ...

The machined valve spring pockets are an easy way to tell from a picture. But even if they are real, there's no reason to want them over a set of standard heads. They use the exact same port casting as non-hipo heads.

upps. yah. should have mentioned that. unless you need them for your K-code car with k-code engine, go for a set of aftermarket alum heads.
i guess they're worth money to a collector who _needs_ them

I saw a pair last year at a swap meet that went for $600.00. They were in serious need of repair. Least of which was the fact that where the rocker studs mounted the heads were cracked.

And somebody bought them.....
