ok perhaps the weight is the wrong one and not a 28, this would cause it to be taller and hit but why would the studs tough the spacer if they didnt touch before. the torque converter is still the same

two things come to mind:
-Wong flex plate from the parts store.
-The torque converter is not seated in the front pump and you're bending the hell out of the flex plate.

tear it down and confirm both.

yo jlg, perhaps wrong flex but when you mean bending hell out of flexplate, you think that the entire flexplate is being pushed forward by the torque converter making the studs and weight being pushed forward?

how would you tear it down? remove engine or remove tranny?

You could maybe drop the tranny, seat the converter, and replace maybe. this is just an idea cuz i've never had to do this but it seems it would be easier than removing the whole engine and then putting it back in unless you had a hoist that went high enough that you could just lift the engine straight up high enough to work then drop it right back down.

i guess ill have to take it somewhere to drop the tranny. anyone every take out a tranny while the car is on the ground? perhaps jack it somehow on stands?

Thats what i had to do. When i got my mustang it still had the original tranny in it (no engine) and i just jacked up the car on stands and lowered the tranny to the ground and rolled it out. Be careful though! heavy things (trans) hitting the car while it's on stands is never good for the car's stability on stands.

another question, how does the tranny come out from the rear if the drive sits in about 6 inches. Does it seperate from the link in between?

exactly what 69 said. simply un-bolt the u-bolts at the differential end of the driveshaft and it should just slip right out.
