ill try that tomorrow, only thing its gonna be a one man show so not quite sure if ill be able to manage. lets see. I hope you guys are right about the torque converter not being all the way in, but that doesnt really explain the weight against the spacer....
anyway just to confirm, the spacer goes on first, then the flexplate then the end washer sorta thing then bolts.

Diid you use the origonal crank? What's the "end-play" like on the crank? It looks liike the crank is too far forward for some reason.
Aftter reading the rest of this thread, it could be that you have it in a bind. Are the trans bolts tight? Loosen them and back the trans up a little. That will tell you if that is the problem. You would only need to back it off like 1/2 inch.
This may be a dumb question now, but, was this a problem before the motor went in?
haw many teeth does the flexplate have small bellhousing use a 157 tooth plate, the larger bellhousing use the 164

its a 157 tooth, its the exact same as original. i put them side to side before installing. however i did notice the weight is thicker on the new flexplate. its 2mm thicker.
I booked to have the tranny removed on thurs at a friends body shop but the anticipation is killing me i was thinking of trying to remove the tranny myself by jacking up the car......
once i figure it out ill post you guys what the fcuk happened.
by the way, i didnt touch the crank when i rebuilt the top end of the engine. so its not that.... i bet its something stupid....but only way is to take the bitch apart.
one last question.... is the bellhousing supposed to touch the engine before the bolts go in or do the bolts bring it together?
Cyprus, I think you hit it on the money. Use a couple of head bolts so you don't have the muck with aligning the tranny and block. Unbolt the torque converter. Bet once to move the tranny back the flex plate moves back also. I recall chevy torque converters (TH350) drop twice, and I remember my C4 converter dropped three times when putting it on. You probably didn't catch that last drop.
hate to say this bud, but i had this problem when i put a new c-4 tranny in my 68. The cause was the torque converter wasnt all the way down on the shaft on the transmission.
